People with vascular dementia experience problems with reasoning, judgment, and memory. These changes can occur suddenly, or they may be mild and go unnoticed at first.

-vascular dementia is caused by reduced blood flow to the brain usually as the result of a stroke or other brain injury or narrowing of arteries
 - second most common form of dementia after Alzheimers

The most common symptoms of vascular dementia are:
  • confusion and memory problems
  • difficulty paying attention and focusing
  • being easily agitated or upset
  • unsteady gait
  • difficulty controlling urination or needing to urinate frequently
Risk factors:
age
history of stroke or heart attack
hardened arteries
diabetes, lupus, high blood pressure may all be factors

Treatment:  if caught early can make it more manageable but damage is irreversable
Life expectancy is shortened
